Hundreds of children, young people and parents learned more about online safety at the annual Familathlon family celebration, held this year on 3 September at South Park 2 in Sofia.
The Safer Internet Centre engaged both children and adults with the activities at its booth, hosted by the Centre’s experts and young volunteers. The members of the Youth Panel Anton Spasov and Simona Todorova prepared and conducted a fun game for children and young people. In an interesting way, they encouraged the young participants to discuss which content is appropriate to upload on social networks and which one would be risky to share.
The younger children were gifted the story and game book “Mishu and the Internet Mess”, which explains the basic principles of online safety in an age-appropriate way. There were also gifts for parents, including useful information materials, such as “Literate children in the digital age – a compass for parents” etc.
The first “Familathon”, held in person after the pandemic started, involved many organisations, clubs and businesses that offered fun, interesting and useful activities for children and parents. A performance and stage programme was also prepared for the families. It included musical performances by Studio Lily Music and HighLight Singing Academy, as well as short films by NIM Animations and cartoons created by children from the Centre for Democratic Education, as well as a scientific show by DNA – Children’s Science Class. The traditional “Little Bike Ride” also took place.
The „Familathlon” Family Festival has been organized by the Parents Association since 2009.
