On September 8, 2015, a team of experts from the Applied Research and Communications Fund held a training for 30 primary-school teachers on the methodology for countering hate speech and discrimination.
During the training, the teachers, who participated actively, learned about the most common online threats and risks for children, the ways to address them and how to prevent dangerous behaviour online. The connection between the Internet and the trafficking of people was also explained.
The main focus points of the training were the use of hate speech and discrimination online, and the ways for prevention of these phenomena among students. To this end, the ARC Fund experts presented their methodology for working with primary-school students on these problematic topics. The opportunity for teachers to use the methodology in their classes and subsequently provide feedback and ideas for its improvement were also discussed.
A special Facebook group was created to provide a channel for further discussion of all the issues and ideas, and enable the continuation of the training online. The group will also provide a stage for collection of suggestions and opinions on the methodology.
